i grew up in high point and have been eating at honey monk's (lexington #1) as long as as wayne has been cooking. imho there is no better pork bbq.
i have tried all the other lexington bbq(s) and while there are many good ones, monk is still the best. i have eaten bbq across the usa and still return to lexington #1 for the best.

The next time you are in Hemingway, you should head up the road to Kingstree and check out Brown's BBQ. 809 N Williamsburg County, Kingstree, SC

Jim--growing up in Eastern NC (Goldsboro), I can certainly appreciate great Q and have enjoyed reading your blog. Can't wait for you to get your "joint" up and running! I do not even know if it is legal to do anymore but there used to be a great place in Goldsboro (closed for many years now) that had their version of a BBQ carving station, right in the restaurant! A half or whole pig, pig-pickin' style, right there in the middle of the restaurant for you to "pick" from! What a treat!

Chef you have got to hit 12Bones in Asheville NC

Amazing Ribs

The Pulled Pork is truly pulled, never chopped so it's in big, luscious hunks

The best sides you will find! No hushpuppies, tho :(

George, Thanks for your comments. One thing I am not doing is reviewing the restaurants. The ones that are my favorites are listed on "Jim's List." I am a chef and restaurateur and I respect that these folks are in business and I don't want to ever hurt anyone's business. I am merely giving comments on each restaurant and listing my favorites on "Jim's List." The one's you mentioned as your favorites I will eventually get to. I have eaten at BBQ Center, but before I began my Pig Pen Trails. And I agree about Skylight as being the best I have had so far, in the East. Lexington #1 is my favorite so far, but because of how I order it - coarse chopped, brown. Keep in touch and let me know of any other noteworthy restaurants you enjoy - like the section on "Carolina Road Cuisine" - sincerely, Jim Noble
